Protestors interfere ICE

Democracy Allows Protest, Not Obstruction

Over the past year, the issue of raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in cities such as Minneapolis has generated intense debate and a passionate public response both for and against. These raids, generally carried out without prior notice, have sparked strong emotions and, at times, massive demonstrations. In this context, it is essential to recognize the delicate balance between citizens’ right to protest and the limits of what constitutes interference with a legal process.

Protest is an essential element of American democracy, enshrined in the Constitution and upheld by generations of civic action. In Minneapolis, as in many other places, people have gathered to express their concerns about ICE’s tactics, the perceived mistreatment of immigrant communities, and the broader implications for civil liberties. These demonstrations provide a vital platform for marginalized voices, raise public awareness, and foster necessary conversations about immigration policy. Peaceful assembly allows citizens to advocate for their viewpoints, expressing disagreement with the current administration’s policies without resorting to violence or disrupting legal processes.

However, the right to protest does not extend to interfering with law enforcement operations or obstructing official duties. When demonstrators cross the line from lawful protest into physical obstruction or direct interference—such as blocking vehicles, unlawfully entering government property, or preventing officers from carrying out lawful orders—the rule of law is undermined and public safety is put at risk. Such actions can escalate tensions, endanger both participants and officials, and negatively impact the broader community.

In the case of ICE raids in Minneapolis, while many residents felt compelled to protest, some took actions that went beyond peaceful demonstration. These actions, though motivated by empathy or frustration, ultimately compromised the legitimacy of the movement and diverted attention from its message. The most effective protests respect both the right to free expression and the limits imposed by the law. Upholding these principles ensures that the pursuit of justice remains grounded in respect for democratic norms and public order.

In conclusion, while people have every right to protest ICE raids in Minneapolis and elsewhere, that right must be exercised responsibly. Interfering with law enforcement activities not only jeopardizes the safety of everyone involved, but also threatens the integrity of the protest itself. True progress is achieved when voices are raised and heard within the framework of the law.

A Conservative Compass

By: Blanca Tapahuasco.

As we draw close to a New Year, the moment of reflection before us is not just personal—it is political. Looking back on the past year, we are reminded how vital it is to anchor ourselves in the conservative principles that safeguard our freedoms when the world around us rages against us and grows increasingly volatile.

Reflection through a conservative lens means evaluating how well we defended limited government, protected individual liberties, and upheld the constitutional foundations that have guided this nation for nearly two-hundred and fifty years. It compels us to consider where we stood firm against overreach, where we spoke up for parental rights, secure borders, and fiscal responsibility, and where we remained committed to the idea that strong families and local communities-not centralized power-form the backbone of a healthy society.

As political pressures and cultural shifts maneuvering like raging waves continue to challenge long-held values, a conservative compass helps ensure our steps into the New Year are deliberate and principled. We commit once again to carry the resolve to protect what works, preserve what matters, and push back when necessary to defend the freedoms entrusted to us.

With reflection and conviction, we enter the New Year ready to stand steady in a world that too easily disregards the cost of liberty and the value of tradition.

Leo salazar honored

Leo Salazar Honored by the Peruvian Congress

We are proud to highlight a major achievement for our colleague and friend, Leo Salazar, President of the Latino Republican Organization of Maryland, who has been formally recognized by the Congress of the Republic of Peru for his outstanding work supporting Latino communities across the United States. This distinction reflects years of leadership, dedication, and service aimed at uplifting Hispanic voices and strengthening civic participation across the country.

Leo’s commitment goes far beyond traditional community outreach. Under his leadership, he has helped expand educational initiatives, encouraged grassroots political engagement, and opened pathways for Latino families to become more involved in shaping local and national policy. His work has inspired many first-generation voters, young professionals, and community leaders to step forward and make their voices heard.

The recognition from the Peruvian Congress underscores the international reach of Leo’s efforts. It celebrates not only his dedication to the Peruvian-American community, but also his broader mission of expanding opportunity, representation, and conservative values among Latinos throughout the United States.

We congratulate Leo on this well-deserved honor and look forward to the continued positive impact of his work in the years to come.

Charlie kirk photo

Charlie Kirk

Today, we mourn the loss of Charlie Kirk — a man of conviction, faith, and fearless voice — whose passion for God and unyielding defense of free speech stirred hearts across America, and beyond. Born in 1993, Charlie was an evangelical Christian whose faith was the anchor of his life. He believed deeply that faith should inform conscience, courage should guide action, and that the truth, no matter how unpopular, must be spoken.

Charlie was not merely a public figure; he was a son, a husband, and a father. In 2021 he married Erika Frantzve, a businesswoman, podcaster, and philanthropist. Together they shared the joys and responsibilities of family. They were blessed with a daughter born in August 2022 and a son in May 2024. To Erika, to their children, we offer our deepest sympathy and our respect for the love that bound Charlie to them
From founding Turning Point USA at age eighteen to leading countless campus debates and media efforts, Charlie’s voice was never reserved. He stood as a bulwark for freedom of speech, especially where many others bowed out. He believed that in open debate, in the marketplace of ideas, the soul of a democratic society is preserved. Even in his final moments — speaking on a university campus, challenging young people to think, question, to speak — he embodied that commitment.
His zeal was never for division alone, but for a vision: of a society where faith informs public life, where silence is not demanded, where the individual conscience is honored. To many, he was a polarizing figure; to many more, he was a source of inspiration. For those in the Latin community who share his values — faith in God, courage in speech, family at the core — his passing is a profound sorrow.

Charlie Kirk’s voice has been silenced, but his legacy lives on — in the debates he fired, in the books he wrote, in the communities he stirred to courage. May we be faithful to celebrate what was noble in him, continue what was good, and uphold the principles for which he stood. In this moment of grief, we pray for comfort for his wife Erika, his children, his friends — and we pledge that his call for truth, for free speech, and for faith shall not be forgotten. May God rest his soul, and may we honor him in our lives.
